Leading on from my latest IGTV video, Riley’s bedroom transformation is now complete! When we moved back into the house in February 2017 we didn’t have any money left over to finish this room. The walls were just painted in Farrow and Ball’s Wimborne white, the new bunk was installed, some relatively cheap curtains were put up and our old furniture pieces were put in.
This is how the room looked when we first moved back in;
When deciding on the look for this room, I started by focusing on the key colours that I wanted to bring together. The bunk bed was bought specifically for this room (as the boys were originally going to sleep together) so this served as my starting point.
We purchased this bed from Funky Bunk and were able to design exactly how it was configured. The colours we choose were white, charcoal and red so my aim was to make white and charcoal the key colours for the room with red as the accent colour.
To balance the dark charcoal tone on the wardrobe, I decided to create a corner wall feature in the room with the use of some paint. I used Valspar paint primarily due to their vast colour options and the ability to perfectly match the colour of the wardrobe. Using frogtape and string – yes string, it was a great way of ensuring my lines were straight, I marked out the area I wanted to paint. I went for a triangle corner feature which in the end, was a key design element of the whole room.
I just love the simplicity of this paint feature. It is fairly easy and inexpensive to do but gives such an impact. This would also look great using a lighter paint colour for a subtle contrasting feature such as light grey, baby pink or ice blue.
I opted for made-to-measure roman blinds for this room to maximise the space and to keep the look clean and simple. I have always been really impressed with Dunelm’s made to measure service, it has a relatively quick turnaround and the price is very reasonable.
In terms of room styling, I kept this really simple. I opted for picture ledges to add some interest to the walls, bunting to give that personal touch and to tie the room colours together, a statement blanket (which is just so Riley!) a lightning bolt chalkboard and a zig zag rug to reflect the angles of the corner wall feature and some new bedding to freshen up the whole space.
I have included a shoppable product list towards the bottom of this post should you list to create a similar look.
